go on a real nice holiday!
This OBS experience has been a really enriching, exciting and unforgettable one. just to help me remember, i shall list out all my first times, since first times are much mopre easier to remember.
First time:
going for OBS (duh. i mean, when else can i have the opportunity to do so?)
being in ARMSTRONG! <3
spending 5 days away from home without my family (surprisingly i didn't miss home!)
eating loads of bread and biscuits for lunch (not exactly first time, but first time eating THAT much for lunch)
realising that actually all these buns that come individually packed in plastic bags (kaya bun, chocolate chip bun, butter bun, cheese bun, etc.) and biscuits (especially the peanut cream ones) and granola bars (namely oats'n'honey and maple brown sugar flavours) are actually THAT nice to eat (i think i'm addicted to them already!)
actually knowing how to put on a harness (i've seen it before, but the last time someone else helped me with it)
being able to remember the belaying calls
cooking rice in a pot with solid fuel (it wasn't very successful though)
realising (again...) how nice stewed peanuts (those that come in cans) and chicken franks (also canned ones) taste
stuffing things into a camping bag properly (i never knew how to do it properly until elton taught us how to, always thought it was just about stuffing everything in)
playing the dao-ing game for so long even though elton already saw through it
trekking with damn heavy stuff (from camp 2 to camp 1)
realising how camp 1 actually looks like hwa chong
realising how short my arms actually are through the indiana (i didn't complete it lar, obvious...)
KAYAKING!
capsizing in the open sea (actually not that open, i could still stand)
hugging the kayak like a koala
eating camp 1 food at the cookhouse (which is absolutely heavenly as compared to eating only bread, canned food and half-cooked rice)
realising how lame all the instructors can get (especially elton)
waking up at 4 during a non-sjab camp (even though we still reported late...)
getting so frantic over 1 missing life jacket (which we eventually found with amundsen)
kayaking for almost 8 hours around the whole of ubin (tiring but fun and unforgettable...)
squeezing with 4 other people under 1 poncho and hiding from the rain on some frog island (virtually unknown to people although it's stated on the map) for 1 1/2 hours (i totally felt like some refugee)
pegging at jelutong (although no first time camping there)
washing dirty cutlery and utensils in the sea (how clean can anything get with seawater?)
chasing a dog away at 3am (all because amundsen left food lying around... even after i went around telling people to keep their food and the instructors telling us over and over again not to leave food around)
sitting outside a toilet playing lame games while waiting for the rain to stop (although it didn't stop in the end)
hiding for another 2 hours at ubin - hsbc volunteer hub
hearing about this thing called 'german girl shrine' (although i didn't notice it and only realised after elton said it was some yellow thing by the side of the road where this old man was standing with a dog)
feeling so happy just to see an OBS banner in the middle of nowhere (i.e. somewhere in the forest, indicating we were reaching camp 2)
shouting for joy (in my heart of course) when i saw camp 2 (you know when you think somewhere's bad, but you go to some place that's even worse, you would wish you were back at the former)
knowing that ARMSTRONG CAN ACTUALLY SKIP!
taking part in a culinary competition of some sort and winning the 'Best Taste' award!
trying to cook with something called chicken stock powder, without salt and pepper
tasting chicken luncheon meat (and loving it!)
successfully cooking long beans
laughing so hard (at our group's presentation for the competition)
going so crazy with watchmates over washing (ponchos, that is, i wonder why...)
waking up later than everyone else from all the other groups in a camp (usually i'm one of the first few people to wake up)
feeling so emotionally attached to a camp group (I MISS ARMSTRONG!!!)
owning OBS merchandise (they're damn cool!)
not wanting to leave OBS and ubin (despite all the mosquitoes and sandflies)
anything you want to put here. updates, notices, disclaimers.
it's really up to you. a short message, a favourite quote, or a special shoutout. something like...
