新年快乐!恭喜发财!woah, time flies. it's already the second day of chinese new year. haven't been posting the past few days, busy partying away and eating all the good food. shall talk about chinese new year here:
new year's evewent to school today looking like we were going to celebrate national day with our RED nine-tee and WHITE skirt. yes, just add 5 stars and a crescent and we'll all look like singapore flags. anyway, chinese new year celebrations in school are pretty much the same every year, just that i don't understand why modern dance takes part in the chinese new year performance. shall talk more about it later.
ok, so first we had assembly and before that, chatted with squadmates about CCA stuff when sharon mentioned what NCOs told her and sinying the day before during training, some negative stuff about our squad that i do not wish to talk about here as it's just gonna spoil my day.
after assembly we had 挥春 in class, and i totally screwed up my first couplet. all was going well, at least for my standard, until the second half of the couplet where i got so proud writing my 福 until i screwed up and created a new word with one of them with two 田s.
then after that we went to the basement to practise our footdrill cos we had 1/2 hour before we had to go to the hall. our footdrill improved (at least all of us thought so), and comp team taught us new commands, which didn't exactly sink in very well with some of us.
the concert was kinda plain, nothing special or particularly interesting during the whole thing, except that i was falling asleep at some points. the lion dance was nice, only cos the lions were cute, with the pink and white ears flapping up and down. the music, not a good thing cos it was right in front of us and it was so loud, i was going deaf ok! but i guess it must be even harder on those lion dancers. then the next part was during the 2 dances. the first one, chinese dance was ok, and at least i thought it was good. the second one, modern dance, was the real 'sleeping pill'. why do i say so? i really thought it sucked ok? the choreography was mediocre, there was nothing special about it at all. can't put all of the blame on the dance itself, blame it on bad luck that they were placed after chinese dance, that was so good. apparently the dance was supposed to show the multiculturalism in singapore, but other than the costumes, which were quite hideous too, and that small little part that each of the 4 supposed races came out with something unique to the race, i didn't think there was anything else in the performance that was multicultural at all. the song choice made it even worse, it was so crude, some stuff about 'rolling on the floor in the night' or something like that. argh. but then again, the music was the only thing that was keeping me awake (i.e. it was so loud that i couldn't fall asleep).
ok enough about the concert. so school ended early at 10.30, but i took 15 minutes to pack up and wait for the side gate to open. sometimes i really hate the security guard stationed at the side gate. he/she opens and closes the gates at all the wrong times... then went to lot 1 to meet up with mdm r and a few others from 6A1. took lunch and chatted before going home, cos i wasn't really feeling well. the night before i went to bed with a sore throat, thinking it was going to go away with some rest, but i didn't expect it to be the start of a flu, worsening into a cough and accompanied with a blocked nose and a slight fever. the previous night i had already taken fever and sore throat medicine, but it didn't seem like it was working too well.
when i got home mummy was still making her kueh lapis. i watched TV and fell asleep halfway. when i woke up at 4+ i still didn't feel well so i took some fever medicine. then the fever went away and we had steamboat for dinner, together with popo, stephanie jiejie and weilin, who came down cos she didn't want to go with momo and coufu for reunion dinner with her maternal side relatives. the steamboat was super delicious, especially the shabu beef! yumyum!
stayed up to watch those disappointing CNY countdown shows. they're always so boring and lacking originality. went to bed at around 2+.
CNY Day 1woke up at 10+ and found out that yeezhai and family were here even before i woke up. i woke up feeling fine except for the blocked nose and cough. at least the fever and sore throat were gone... went up to popo's house to 拜年 and take lunch. the waxed duck and sausages rock!!! after lunch yeezhai and family left, and samyee and family came at around 2+. we got bored from waiting, so we played a few round of mahjong, me, kor, stephanie jiejie and weilin, and i won 2 rounds! but then after that i lost real bad. then gabriel came and took over and also won 2 rounds. then came back home cos daddy's cousin came. i really dread seeing them cos everytime they come, all of them look so glum, so sian, so unwilling to come, probably only because of the fact that mama's still alive, so they still HAVE to come. i even feel sian looking at them, so i did what i have never done before, walking out of the house when they were still around. i really couldn't stand looking at them anymore. went back up, then the adults took over and played, cos mummy kept complaining that we were all very slow at playing mahjong, but come on, we're only beginners, how fast can you expect us to be? popo to go do stuff and guess what, she told me, yes ME, to take over, and play with 3 adults. can you imagine, me playing with pros when i don't even know when i'm winning or losing... but anyway mahjong's fun. after 2 rounds jasmine jiejie took over cos she wanted to learn, and me and samyee taught her how to play. there was louhei before dinner, although i didn't lou cos i didn't bother to squeeze into the crowd around the table. dinner was the same old usual stuff that popo cooks every year, but there was this prawn and egg white batter thing that momo fried that was quite nice, except that it was a tad too oily. oh yes, just to mention, all of us finished momo's bak kwa that was in the container on the coffee table. it was a little hard, but still nice. after dinner we all watched I Do I Do, that was showing on channel 8, and then people started leaving. slept quite early, and so i didn't blog. i wanted to, and even turned on the computer, but then i was too tired to even touch the keyboard.
CNY Day 2
went out to 拜年 at daddy's auntie's house, and for the first time in my whole history of going there, i talked so much to this other cousin of daddy's. so happened he touched on the topic of taiwan, which got me so aroused i couldn't stop. anyway, i came to a conclusion that daddy's closer to this cousin than the other cousin cos this cousin seems so nice and friendly but the other one seems so stuck up just cos he's loaded. this cousin that we visited today, he's nice lar, and he and daddy have more to talk about. he even makes an effort to try to talk to me, maybe also because of the fact that he knows mdm mak (they're neighbours), and he knows i'm from nanyang, so yeah. but yeah, he just seems nicer than the other cousin, whose whole family doesn't even try to start a topic, not even with daddy. then we went for lunch at central and had jap food for lunch, cos that was one of the only restaurants open there. even billy bombers was not open yet. came home at about 3+ and watched 原來我不帥 on youtube. i think the show, although quite boliao, is quite funny lar. all those funny antics and the weird stuff those people do. the pigeon 老王's also quite cute... =D
ok, so that's roughly what i did during the CNY period that i think's worthy of my remembering. quite a nice CNY this year, i must say, although no one of the nicest...
